CcSa’s on going Projects and Key Achievements

1. Promoting Integrated Livelihood Opportunities for Resilience (PILOR)

PILOR is an initiative dedicated to empowering displaced single mothers by equipping them with essential business skills, providing seed capital, and establishing Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) in collaboration with local microfinance institutions. This initiative has transformed their lives, enabling them to break free from reliance on emergency aid in IDP camps. Before the project, many of these women depended entirely on external support for daily survival. Today, they are financially independent, generating sustainable income, sending their children to school, and integrating into host communities with the help of targeted transitional support. Their collective savings through VSLAs have exceeded 100,000 ETB, demonstrating the program’s lasting impact. Additionally, recognizing the trauma they have endured—fleeing conflict and violence, often traveling for days in search of safety—the project also provides psychosocial support, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and resilience.

2. Empowering Women Living with HIV/AIDS

Since 2015, our HIV/AIDS program has been transforming the lives of disadvantaged women in Addis Ababa’s Lemi Kura and Gullele sub-cities. This initiative supports poor, single, and marginalized women living with HIV/AIDS by equipping them with essential skills to improve their health, well-being, and economic independence. Our approach focuses on three key areas: health, hygiene, and nutrition, as well as entrepreneurship training. Through these trainings, women learn to manage their health effectively by adhering to ART medications, maintaining proper hygiene, and accessing affordable, locally available nutritious food to strengthen their immune systems and improve CD4 and viral load levels. Beyond health, we empower them economically—helping them build sustainable livelihoods to support themselves and their families. This project not only enhances their quality of life but also fosters resilience, dignity, and long-term self-sufficiency in the face of adversity.

3. Building Climate Resilience in Flood-Prone Communities

Our Climate Resilience Program is dedicated to mitigating the devastating effects of floods on lives, livelihoods, and livestock. By strengthening Early Warning Systems (EWS) and implementing community-driven disaster preparedness measures, we empower vulnerable communities to respond effectively to climate-induced risks. Through a community-based approach, we have worked closely with local institutions, volunteers, and disaster risk management task forces to ensure that early warning messages reach even the most remote households. Our efforts have significantly enhanced flood preparedness in Fogera, Dera, and Libo woredas of South Gondar Zone, where communities experience recurrent flooding.

4. Emergency Response

Providing Life-Saving Emergency Assistance to Conflict and Climate-Affected Communities. In response to the devastating impacts of conflict and climate-induced shocks, our Emergency Response Program has reached 10,000 displaced individuals across Tigray, Amhara, and Afar regions. These communities, uprooted by violence, drought, and floods, often lack access to basic necessities such as food, shelter, and essential household items. Our intervention ensures that families receive immediate, life-saving support, helping them stabilize and begin the journey toward recovery.

5. Food Security Program

Introducing Cassava Cultivation for Food Security in North Wollo, Amhara. As part of our commitment to enhancing food security and climate resilience, we are currently piloting cassava cultivation in North Wollo Zone, Amhara Region. This initiative is designed to diversify food sources, improve household nutrition, and provide an alternative, climate-resilient crop for communities facing recurrent droughts and food shortages.

Why Cassava?

Cassava is a drought-tolerant, highly nutritious, and versatile crop that can thrive in harsh conditions where other staple crops struggle. With its long shelf life, high carbohydrate content, and adaptability to various soil types, cassava presents a sustainable solution to food insecurity in Ethiopia’s drought-prone regions.
